Happy Birthday, Thomas

November 30th, 2006

Thomas is One! It’s been a quick year, but everyone’s sleeping through the night and eating solid food. James is a great big brother (as is Onyx), though he now has to run around and gather up toys every time Thomas comes into the room. Thomas is working on more teeth (6 and 7, I think).

His horoscope:

IF NOVEMBER 30 IS YOUR BIRTHDAY: Have faith that everything will fall into place. Because others think highly of you, favors will be granted or a wish could come true by the end of December or the beginning of January. Don’t look a gift horse in the mouth, because this will be your best time to make a huge improvement in some area of your life or to launch important plans. You could seek a promotion, change jobs or make a commitment to a loved one. You may have other opportunities in March, but they won’t be quite as helpful or as easy to obtain. Remain optimistic, as bliss is sure to enhance your life all year long.

Happy Birthday, James

James is 3 today. Here’s his horoscope from the San Jose Mercury News:

IF NOVEMBER 20 IS YOUR BIRTHDAY: A new goal, a brainstorm, or a passion might consume your energies in the year to come. Between January and June, because you feel invincible, you will be able to overcome any opposition or obstacle and achieve your dreams. Look for opportunities to improve your financial standing especially in Marchch and April. Don’t take a vacation or make crucial changes, such as a starting a new job, in August when you could be called upon to work harder than ever. During those few weeks in August, others may take a more critical attitude toward you or you could make a serious mistake. Look for some golden opportunities to receive well-deserved rewards and to make permanent improvements by this time next year.

I’m hoping that last line means that the trials of potty training will be resolved soon.

knitting project

I recently won a knitting kit from Vintage Purl. So far I’ve knitted the back and front + hood. Just have the sleeves and the finishing to do. It’s supposed to be for Thomas, but it may be big enough for James this winter.

Thomas has a birthday wagon thanks to Grandma and Grandpa Cree. Earlier, Thomas was pushing the wagon, but in these pictures James gave him a ride around the living room.

monterey bay aquarium

We recently spent the day at the Monterey Bay Aquarium, thanks to James’s preschool teacher Janet. She gave us her guest passes for the day so that we could spend as long (or as short) a visit as we wanted. The reason we went to Monterey was to see Aunt Sharyn who was in town for a conference (and had just a few hours to see us). Though we missed seeing her at the Aquarium, we did catch up for a few minutes at dinner, so she finally got to meet Thomas.

When Jeff walked in the door last night James announced, “Daddy’s home! Now we can go Trick or Treat!” We made it exactly two houses before he wanted to go home.

Rahn Ramblings

September 12th, 2006

The summer’s just flown by! We started out with a visit to Hood River to see Kelli’s parents while her brother and his family were visiting. Aya (6-months younger than James) and James had a great time together: they got to go on a train ride, ride in Grandpa Cree’s school bus, and just hang out together. Of course, since Aya lives on the east coast they would often nap/sleep when the other was awake.

IMG_1034.JPG(Mom’s been trying to make an update to my site, but she’s been very busy with me, Thomas and the whole Christmas thing…)I’m a big brother! My little brother Thomas was born just 10 days after my birthday.

5 pounds, 4 ounces and 18 inches long

Congratulations to Aunt Tami who, at the last minute, changed her guess in the Rahn family contest to her very own birthday. She was right!

Mom and Dad will tell us more about the arrival of Thomas. Maybe next month when they have more time to write.

10311463409_0_ALBMom and Dad think this is funny, but I don’t know why: I’m very serious!I’m 2 years old! Yesterday we celebrated my birthday by visiting the Children’s Discovery Museum for 4 hours! Mom was really impressed that I lasted that long. Of course, we took a break in the middle for “mac-cheez” and a run around the park. Gigi and Grandpa gave us a yearlong membership to the museum, so I think we’ll head back there quite a few times this year. You can take me if you come to visit, too! My favorite things were the vehicles (Ambulance, Fire Engine, Car, Dr. Seuss Train) and the water play area. We didn’t even make it to the way back of the museum! Mom and Dad finally had to carry me out to the car.

On the way to the car we saw the lightrail go by and I waved at the Conductor! He was wearing a blue hat just like Engineer Small in The Little Train book that I love. I wanted the train to come back, but it just kept going down the tracks.

IMG_0546.JPGMom finally remembered to bring the camera to Preschool! I must have tried out every one of the cars in the yard. And the boats, too. My favorite spot is the sandbox. I can play there for hours! Indoors we play with puzzles, sing songs, read books, play with trains and have snack. After class, we go home and nap for the rest of the afternoon. One day we took a preschool field trip to Farm Fresh produce in Mountain View. I went there last year, too. They have a train, piles of pumpkins, and small pens of animals. We met our preschool friends there for snacks, a story, a couple of songs and some parachute playtime. Then we all went exploring. I especially liked the train—Mom and I rode it 4 times! Three times we sat in open cars and the last time we got in the orange caboose. You can see more pictures by clicking on the picture above (it will take you to Flickr.com).

My vocabulary is growing by leaps and bounds. Mom and Dad are constantly amazed and what I am able to absorb!
